PATTAYA, Thailand – Cash is reportedly circulating strongly in Pattaya as the city’s nightlife sector continues to recover, with many bar workers earning steady income that not only supports local businesses but also helps families in other parts of Thailand.

Business owners in entertainment areas say the flow of money through bars, restaurants, street food vendors and convenience shops has noticeably improved in recent months as foreign visitors return.

Workers in the nightlife sector, particularly hostesses and bar staff, are among those with regular daily income. Many say they now have greater spending power for basic living costs such as food, rent and transportation.

Local vendors report that these workers are also frequent customers at nearby food stalls, markets and small shops, helping keep neighborhood businesses active.

“At the end of the day, everyone has to eat,” one street food seller near a nightlife area said. “Many of the girls working in the bars come here after work, so money keeps moving around.”

Beyond their own expenses in Pattaya, many workers also send part of their earnings back to families in their home provinces, especially in the northeast and northern regions of Thailand. These remittances help support parents, children and relatives.

Economists often note that income earned in tourism cities like Pattaya tends to circulate widely. Money spent by tourists flows through multiple layers of the local economy—from entertainment venues to food suppliers, transport operators and market vendors.

Residents say this circulation is important for keeping the local economy stable, particularly after the slowdown experienced during previous tourism downturns.

While challenges remain, many small business owners say the steady movement of cash through Pattaya’s nightlife districts is helping both workers and local vendors maintain their livelihoods.
