A Sattahip junior-high student is being called a hero after rescuing a drowning 9-year-old.

Chanachai Wannarom, 14, dived into a public swimming pool in Sattahip village July 10 and saved the life of Sakpat Soponkanatorn.

Pulled unconscious from bottom of the 1.5-meter-deep pool, the boy was rushed to Queen Sirikit Naval Medical Center where he was expected to make a full recovery.

Sakpat’s father, Jirayu, said the 9-year-old was a new swimmer and had been snorkeling with a mask and fins in the shallow end of the pool, but somehow ended up in the deep end unnoticed.
