PATTAYA, Thailand – A Songkran celebration in Udon Thani has turned into a safety warning after a woman was injured when a pickup truck sprayed water mixed with ice cubes, striking her forehead during festivities at Nong Prajak Park.

The incident occurred around 1:00 PM on April 13 near the fountain tunnel area, a popular spot for water celebrations. According to a local Facebook page, “Udon Post,” the woman reported that she was taking part in Songkran water play as usual when a passing pickup truck sprayed water into the crowd.

However, the water reportedly contained solid ice cubes, which were forcefully propelled during the splash and struck her directly on the forehead, causing a cut that required stitches. Fortunately, the injury did not affect any critical areas such as the eyes or temples, preventing what could have been a far more serious outcome.

Following the incident, local media and community pages have issued warnings urging the public not to put ice cubes or any hard objects into water containers used for splashing. They stressed that ice pieces can become dangerous projectiles when thrown under pressure, posing risks similar to small stones.

Authorities also called on parents and guardians to closely supervise children and discourage reckless behavior during water play, reminding the public that Songkran should remain a safe and joyful cultural celebration.

Meanwhile, similar Songkran festivities are expected to continue across Thailand, including in Pattaya, where large crowds are preparing for the Wan Lai celebrations on April 18–19 along Beach Road and surrounding areas. Officials there have also stepped up safety measures to manage traffic, crowd control, and prevent risky behavior during the peak holiday events.
