Deputy Mayor Vichien Pongpanit opened the Aug. 29 workshop at the Siamese Hotel and welcomed lead speaker Wanchai Panpiamkiat, an advisor to IQS Management Co.

Wanchai spoke on “Holistic Business Management in Community Enterprise Development”, focusing on how independent entrepreneurs and co-operatives can create sustainable businesses.

Those attending were shown ways to improve their products or join together with others to form business co-ops to jointly produce new products.

Pattaya residents were told that they could also earn extra income by starting home-based selling such things as homemade cleaning fluids, herb products, souvenirs, clothing, embroidery and local foods.

Currently there are 13 vocational training and co-op groups in Pattaya, which are monitored by the Social Development Department. But surveys have shown that these groups need additional training and guidance if they hope to remain sustainable.
