Russian banged up for robbing currency booth


Police arrested a Russian man for robbing a Pattaya-area currency exchange booth and assaulting a clerk.

Provincial Police Region 2 deputy commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Chaloemkiat Sriworakhan announced the arrest of Nikolay Rybalov, 33, at the Najomtien Police Station April 14, hours after the Russian was caught on video brutally beating the clerk at a booth opposite the Ambassador City Hotel on Sukhumvit Road and making off with 700,000 baht.

Rybalov and his Russian girlfriend were captured trying to escape Thailand at Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

Security cameras caught Rybalov storming the exchange booth and knocking the female clerk to the ground, knocking her out. He then beat her repeatedly in the face before taking all the money he could.

Rybalov denied the charges. The clerk is recovering at a hospital in Sriracha.
