Police have arrested a man who was caught on CCTV stealing a ring from a Pattaya gold shop last month.
Chaichan Pusilp, 25, was taken into custody in a sting operation at the Buakhao Gold shop where he allegedly swiped the gold ring March 29.
The shop owners said Chaichan came into pick out some gold and slid the ring on to his finger, then pretended to count out the cash for it.
The owner’s son got distracted, however, and the man causally walked out wearing the gold. The son gave chase and the thief fled on a motorbike.
Police identified the suspect from security camera footage, but found he had fled to his hometown in Nakhon Sawan. However, an undercover informant contacted Chaichan and persuaded him to return to the gold shop to pay for the ring, saying the owner wouldn’t press charges.
Police disguised as store employees arrested him upon arrival.
Police said Chaichan, a dancer in a Pattaya gay bar, confessed, claiming he needed the money to pay for his drug habit and return home for Songkran. He previously was arrested twice for drug possession.
