Two Rayong groups saluted Rhan Lonlua for not only turning 100 years old, but doing so as a model citizen.
Friends, family and neighbors attended the March 24 birthday celebration organized by the Bankhai Cultural Council and Nonglalok Municipal Council at her Bankhai Moo 4 home.
Tim Bunrod, president of the Bankhai cultural group, and Nom Sunthonthanom, president of Nonglalok council, presented Rhan with a certificate honoring her as a role model for Thai society. Nine monks were also invited to perform religious ceremonies and pray for her prosperity. The guest of honor made merit by offering the monks lunch and robes.
Friends and family help Rhan Lonlua light the candles on her 100th birthday cake.
Rhan was born March 24, 1913 and, despite her age, remains healthy with good eyesight and hearing. She is said to be a happy woman with a good attitude and is loved by many.
Nom said the council has an ongoing program to honor local residents who reach the century mark.
