The Provincial Waterworks Authority urged the public to quickly report any water leaks they see, noting the drought situation Thailand currently faces.

Manager Suthat Nutchpan said April 10 that the issue of leaking pipes and water-vending machines arose after a motorcyclist recently hit a machine on Little Hill Road in Nongprue’s Moo 13 village, close to Soi Marbtato.

The driver drove away largely uninjured, but the crash smashed the machine and left water pouring out of broken lines. The hit-and-run cyclist never reported it to authorities, but a member of the public eventually did.

Remnants of the destroyed water-vending machine with water still gushing out of the mains.

Suthat said the hot season and lack of rain make it imperative that Pattaya-area residents be conscious of water conservation. The country as a whole is facing its worst drought in 20 years with emergencies declared in 14 provinces.

People can call the PWA at 038 222 462 – 5 to report any problems.
