BANGKOK, Thailand – The Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) is expanding free clean drinking water services nationwide to improve access and support public well-being. The initiative aligns with the Interior Ministry’s policy to provide safe, standardized drinking water and reduce gaps in access.

PWA Governor Jakrapong Kumchan said the agency has set up mini-stations equipped with reverse osmosis and ultraviolet sterilization systems, each capable of producing up to 2,000 liters per hour. Members of the public can bring clean containers to collect up to 20 liters per person per day at no cost. A total of 71 service points are now operating nationwide, with more sites under construction and planned for further expansion.

The authority reported that more than 1.74 million liters of drinking water have been distributed, helping reduce the use of over 3.52 million plastic bottles. Public feedback has been strong, with high satisfaction ratings. In addition to the mini stations, drinking water is also available through dispensing machines at all 234 PWA offices and at 122 potable tap water locations.

Officials said the program helps lower household expenses, expand access to clean water, and reduce plastic waste. The agency plans to extend coverage further, with a long-term goal of reaching all 234 branches nationwide. (NNT)
