Pattaya hotel operators were taught new ways to conserve energy to increase the number of eco-friendly accommodations in the East.

Taveesak Sirisub, chief of efficiency promotion for the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, led the Aug. 16 seminar organized by the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration at the Cholchan Pattaya Beach Resort.

The EGAT official described various green services offered by the utility and provided instruction on how to conserve power.

Some are as simple as turning off unneeded lights and setting thermostats at 25 degrees Celsius. Other suggestions included using fluorescent bulbs, unplugging electrical machinery not in use, not leaving televisions on, regularly cleaning refrigerators and choosing energy-efficient equipment and tools.

Furthermore, the workshop stressed making energy conservation an employee-level campaign so that everyone participates in reaching conservation goals.
