PATTAYA, Thailand – Sidewalks along Sukhumvit Road, meant for pedestrians, are under siege once again – this time by motorcycles, delivery carts, shop displays… and, my goodness, a big pickup truck – frustrating locals and visitors alike.

“Set heavy fines or nothing will change. People just don’t care,” one passerby vented, dodging a motorbike in the middle of the walkway. Another resident added, “It’s not just one spot; every street has the same problem. Enforcement seems half-hearted.”

Municipal officers continue issuing warnings and violation reports on the spot. “We aren’t trying to intimidate anyone,” said a city official, “but sidewalks are meant for everyone’s safety, not as impromptu parking lots.”

Critics argue the measures barely scratch the surface. Many shop owners continue leaving merchandise and bikes blocking the path. “On Thepprasit, you can’t walk without stepping onto the road,” said a frustrated resident.

Authorities admit compliance depends on individual responsibility but insist that following the rules is crucial for street safety. The public can report blocked sidewalks anytime via Pattaya Contact Center at 1337.
