About 70 Nongprue Sub-district food vendors learned about good hygiene and food safety during a seminar at the municipal office.

Mayor Mai Chaiyanit opened the Jan. 15 “Safe Food” training session organized by the Public Health and Environment Department. The program is held annually.

Each year the department organizes training sessions for food vendors, hoping to improve the cleanliness, quality and standards at food carts and restaurants.

Organizers stressed that increasing numbers of people depend on street food, as it’s fast and convenient. But poorly prepared food or unclean preparation areas can lead to sickness and disease.

Vendors were told not to focus on profit alone, but the nutrition, cleanliness and safety of food they sell. They were encouraged to be good examples of their trade ethnics so that customers would have good, clean, safe and nutritious food.
