PATTAYA, Thailand – Despite warnings of heavy rain and thunderstorms from the Thai Meteorological Department, tourists continue to arrive in Pattaya, undeterred by gloomy skies and crashing waves. The allure of sea breezes, vibrant nightlife, and beachside charm remains as strong as ever.
The Department issued a warning for heavy rain in the eastern region, including Pattaya, the western coast of southern Thailand, and Bangkok and surrounding provinces. Residents and travelers were advised to be cautious of flash floods, storm runoff, and dangerous marine conditions, especially from May 23 to 27, as the southwest monsoon strengthens and a monsoon trough moves over upper Thailand.
Despite this, Pattaya Beach remains busy. Tourists walk barefoot on wet sand, lounge under umbrellas between showers, and crowd beach cafés and seafood restaurants. Local vendors report steady business and a “no fear” attitude from international and domestic travelers alike.
While the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are expected to see waves up to 2 meters during thunderstorms, marine authorities have only advised caution—not closures. Beach operators continue services with safety measures in place.
As one café owner near Jomtien Beach said:
“Tourists come for the breeze, the beach, and the buzz. A little rain won’t wash that away.”
