Pattaya traffic police have launched another of their many crackdowns on parking scofflaws, with no indication how long this one will last.
Pol. Lt. Col. Wasuwat Chotechuang, the newly appointed chief of the Traffic Division, spoke about traffic issues with authorities and organizations at a July 5 meeting. He said parking must be tightened up everywhere, but particularly along Beach Road and the Bali Hai flyover areas.
Recent surveys have revealed that after numerous campaigns to stop people from parking on red-white or yellow-white curbs were obviously ignored.
The yellow-white areas were full of vehicles, as well as under the Bali Hai Bridge, which is marked in the red-white parking prohibited paint.
He said the first step to be taken is to re-paint faded areas to strictly indicate the prohibited areas. Then violators will be prosecuted and possibly have their driving licenses revoked, he said.
Traffic police, particularly after changes in command, routinely launch “crackdowns” only to let things return to normal within days or weeks.
