Navy Commando Unit celebrates 61st year

The Sattahip-based Navy Commando Unit celebrated its 61st anniversary at a July 29 ceremony.

Unit commander Vice Adm. Rattana Wongsaroj chaired the anniversary celebration at the Chumphon Camp with representatives from 56 different divisions and units who offered flower garlands to the monument of Prince Chumphon, the “father of the Thai navy”.

Later, all attendees joined in religious activities as 10 monks from Sattahip Temple chanted and offered blessings to those involved, as well as commemorated those who have died. That was followed by a meal with the monks.

Representatives from government and the private sector also attended to present flowers to congratulate all involved on the occasion.

The commando unit was formed July 30, 1955 and worked closely with the U.S. Navy to train at the Sattahip Naval Base. The celebration of the anniversary takes place every year a day before the actual establishment.
