Narathiwat residents unite in prayer for wounded MP as authorities vow justice

Community members, religious leaders, youth groups, and civil society organizations gathered in Bacho District, Narathiwat, to hold Salatul Hajat prayers for MP Kamonsak Leewamoh following the recent shooting outside his home, while authorities pledged a transparent investigation and reaffirmed their rejection of all forms of violence.

NARATHIWAT, Thailand – Residents of Narathiwat Province held solidarity prayers after the recent shooting of a member of parliament in Narathiwat, while ​the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward violence and its commitment to a transparent justice process.

​On April 19, community members and civil society groups gathered at a school field in Bacho District, Narathiwat, to perform Salatul Hajat (the prayer of need), a special prayer for blessings and support for MP Kamonsak Leewamoh of Constituency 5.



​The prayer gathering took place after an armed attack outside the MP’s residence, which left his driver and a police officer seriously injured. The event was peaceful and included opening remarks, an explanation of its purpose, prayer preparations, collective prayers, and messages of encouragement.

​Participants included local imam associations, religious education groups, village leaders, youth networks, Muslim women’s groups, religious teachers, legal support organizations, and residents from throughout the district.

​Organizers stated that the gathering demonstrated faith, unity, and the community’s shared call for truth and justice, while reaffirming opposition to all forms of violence.

​Authorities reported that four suspects have been arrested, and efforts are ongoing to locate one remaining suspect believed to be attempting to leave the country.

​The Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Command has reiterated its support for local communities and pledged full cooperation with all agencies to ensure those responsible are brought to justice through a transparent, fair, and impartial process.

ISOC Region 4 also reaffirmed its determination to reject all forms of violence and to build public confidence and foster sustainable peace in the Southern Border Provinces. (NNT)
