Pattaya’s mayor believes smiles can erase the negative aspects of Pattaya’s image.
At a meeting with city workers and bureaucrats May 4, Anan Charoenchasri rolled out the latest image campaign he called the “4 S: Smile, Smart, Smooth and Surprise”.
He said if public servants smile, act smartly, make things smooth for city residents and tourists, it will make the world believe Pattaya is a safe and friendly tourist resort, and not the “sex capital of the world” as portrayed in recent British media reports.
No explanation was given for what the “surprise” in the strategy meant.
To reinforce the strategy, and follow up on public complaints and infrastructure problems, city hall plans to hold weekly meetings with department heads.
