PATTAYA, Thailand – An impressive sight is currently attracting attention off the coast of Pattaya. The large cruise ship Mein Schiff 6 is anchored in the Gulf of Thailand near the city, drawing interest from both residents and tourists along the shoreline. Its towering white superstructure and distinctive dark-blue hull make it easily visible from several coastal viewpoints. Many observers have been asking where the ship has come from and what journey lies behind its visit.

The Mein Schiff 6 belongs to the German cruise line TUI Cruises, a joint venture between TUI Group and Royal Caribbean Group. The vessel is part of the modern Mein Schiff fleet and was launched in 2017 as one of the company’s newest generation cruise ships.

Measuring about 295 meters in length and more than 35 meters wide, the ship has a gross tonnage of around 99,000 tons and can accommodate approximately 2,500 passengers, served by a crew of roughly 1,000 international staff members. With 15 passenger decks, the vessel features a wide range of amenities including multiple restaurants, swimming pools, spa and wellness areas, theatres, sports facilities, and large outdoor promenade decks.

On board are primarily German-speaking travellers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The ship is known for its “Premium All-Inclusive” concept, where many restaurants, drinks, entertainment options, and on-board activities are already included in the cruise fare.

At present, the vessel is sailing on a Southeast Asia itinerary, connecting several countries across the region. These cruises often begin in Singapore and include stops in Thailand and Vietnam. For visits to Bangkok and Pattaya, cruise ships typically dock at Laem Chabang Port, located about 30 kilometres from Pattaya and serving as the main deep-sea port for the Bangkok metropolitan region.

From there, passengers often take organized excursions to Pattaya, Bangkok, and surrounding cultural sites. Typical cruise routes in the region also include stops at Phu My Port, the gateway to Ho Chi Minh City, as well as Da Nang in central Vietnam. Some longer voyages may also extend to destinations such as Hong Kong or resort islands in Malaysia.

For Pattaya and the surrounding region, the arrival of a cruise ship like Mein Schiff 6 can bring a welcome economic boost. When ships dock at Laem Chabang, hundreds or even thousands of passengers typically go ashore for day trips, visiting local attractions, restaurants, markets, and shopping centres. Tour operators, transport services, and guides also benefit from these visits.

While the Mein Schiff 6 remains visible off the Pattaya coastline for now, its guests are enjoying views of the tropical waters of the Gulf of Thailand. Soon, however, the vessel will continue its voyage – heading toward its next port of call as part of its on-going journey across Southeast Asia.
