Paragliders alerted authorities after discovering a body below a cliff near a take-off point on Koh Larn off Pattaya.

PATTAYA, Thailand – The body of a 28-year-old Myanmar man was discovered at the base of a cliff on Koh Larn on April 13, after paragliders noticed a strong odor near a take-off point and alerted authorities.

Police from Pattaya City Police Station were informed of the incident at around 4:00 PM. The discovery was made by paragliding enthusiasts using the launch area on the southern side of the island, who became suspicious after detecting a foul smell and looking down the cliff.

Rescue teams were forced to trek up a mountain more than 300 meters above sea level to reach the location. The body was found approximately 20 meters below a near-vertical cliff face, lying face down and believed to have been there for at least 72 hours.

Due to the difficult terrain, rescue personnel used ropes to descend and retrieve the body in an operation that took nearly an hour. Initial examination at the scene could not determine the exact cause of death, as the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition. The body has since been transported to the Police General Hospital in Bangkok for a detailed autopsy.

Authorities also recovered several personal belongings at the top of the cliff, including a backpack, mobile phone, smartwatch, sleeping medication, and a passport identifying the man as a Myanmar national.

Preliminary investigations suggest the victim may have slipped and fallen while resting near the edge of the cliff. However, officials emphasized that the exact cause of death will be determined following forensic examination.
