Minister of Culture Sabeeda Thaised opens the Khon Kaen Songkran Festival on Khao Niew Road, welcoming crowds to a celebration of Thai cultural heritage and regional identity.

KHON KAEN, Thailand – Minister of Culture Sabeeda Thaised presided over the opening of the Khon Kaen Songkran festival on April 14, on Khao Niew Road in Mueang Khon Kaen District. The event, themed “Once in a Lifetime: Experience Songkran in Thailand @Khon Kaen,” attracted large crowds of residents and tourists, showcasing Thai cultural identity and promoting the festival internationally.



The Minister stated that this year’s celebrations highlight the intrinsic value and unique identity of the Thai Songkran festival, which UNESCO has recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. She emphasized the government’s goal to position Thailand as a leading global destination, aiming to leave a lasting impression on international visitors and to support sustainable local economic growth.

​The Minister identified Khon Kaen as a strategic cultural hub that reflects Northeastern traditions. The festival showcases these regional identities through traditional ceremonies, contemporary entertainment, and community-led activities.


​The opening ceremony was attended by the Governor of Khon Kaen, senior provincial officials, and representatives from various cultural networks. The Minister thanked related agencies and partners for their collaboration in organizing the event. She concluded by extending her New Year wishes to the public and encouraged everyone to preserve Songkran traditions for future generations. (NNT)
