A former regional police deputy commander has been appointed mayor of Pattaya by the NCPO.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Anan Charoenchasri, who headed Provincial Police Region 2’s investigative unit, among other posts, was named by the government as one of 12 board members to replace members of the elected 24-seat city council when their terms expired in June last year. Former city deputy permanent secretary Chanapong Sriviset has been serving as acting mayor since.

The new mayor will get to appoint no more than four deputies. He said that likely will happen within a week.

After being installed, Anan quoted a Thai proverb to express his view toward his time in office: “The water is running, there is plenty of power, the roads are good and the authorities are happy”.

He said the deputy mayors he appoints will be ones with experience enough to manage the city.

He said he will continue to work on public works and other projects.
