The Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration is edging closer to submitting a budget request for a “master plan” to bring order to the Pattaya region’s chaotic transportation system.

DASTA Deputy Director Damrong Saengkaweelert and Pattaya project chief Thaweepong Wichaidit met with Pattaya police, Marine Department and city hall officials, as well as representatives from the Pattaya Business & Tourism Association and Thai Hotels Association Eastern Region Sept. 25 to continue work on the master plan.

Consultants from Pisut Technology Co. was in March to draft the master plan over the nine months. The 15 million baht study is aimed at integrating transportation in Pattaya and nine surrounding sub-districts.

Consultants so far have accumulated information and inspected target areas. The next step, addressed at this month’s hearing, is to analyze and evaluate traffic and create mathematical models to demonstrate the most-effective remedies.

Once complete, the master plan will be presented to the Cabinet and outlined in public hearings. A budget request can then be made from the central government.
