A contractor angry over allegedly poor service smashed a defective toilet in a branch of home-improvement store HomePro in Pattaya.

Thanakorn Pan-gnam, 52, destroyed one of two toilets he was trying to return to the Central Road outlet Jan. 26 after employees declined a refund and the manager refused to come out of his office or answer the telephone.

The managing director of Angthong Building Co. and three of his staffers bought two toilets on Jan. 21 for 2,890 baht each but discovered after they were installed that they were defective. So they returned to HomePro to have its technicians check the installation.

The HomePro staff agreed to change the two toilets and asked him to return the originals, which had already been grouted and cemented in place. One suffered minor scratches while being removed, however, and employees refused to take it back.

Thanasak, a long-time customer, got angry and tried in vain to contact the store manager. In frustration, he took a hammer to the scratched commode at the entrance to the store. The manager then suddenly appeared.

No charges were filed and, in fact, the manager took the contractor into his office for a chat, gave him a refund as well as an apology.
