PATTAYA, Thailand – A late-night accident in Bangkok has left eight people injured after a sedan crashed into a 7-Eleven convenience store in the Bang Lamphu area, raising fresh safety concerns for pedestrians and visitors in busy tourist zones.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:29 PM on March 31 along Tanao Road in Phra Nakhon district. Emergency responders arrived to find a grey AION sedan lodged at the entrance of the store, with significant damage to the front of the vehicle.
The driver, identified only as a 57-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries. According to initial reports, she had stopped to pick up a foreign passenger near Rambuttri Road when the vehicle allegedly began moving on its own. She claimed the steering wheel locked and the brakes failed, leaving her unable to control the car before it crashed into the shop.
A total of eight people — both Thai nationals and foreign visitors — were injured in the incident. Rescue teams transported five victims to Samitivej Chinatown Hospital and three others to Thonburi Bamrungmuang Hospital.
Police from Chana Songkhram Station conducted preliminary checks and confirmed that the driver tested negative for both alcohol and illegal substances. Authorities are continuing their investigation and will consider legal action as appropriate.
A Reminder for Pattaya Visitors
While this incident took place in Bangkok, it serves as a stark reminder for tourists and long-term visitors in Pattaya and other crowded areas: sidewalks, storefronts, and roadside pickup points are not always as safe as they appear.
With Songkran approaching and foot traffic expected to surge, extra caution is advised — especially in nightlife zones, beach roads, and convenience store entrances where vehicles frequently stop, park, or maneuver in tight spaces.
