A bumper rambutan crop has pushed prices to dramatic lows, prompting big sales to bargain-hungry fruit lovers.

At the Naklua market, a kilogram of the red fruit can be had for just 15 baht and two kilograms for as little as 25 baht. Buyers obviously are happy but even vendors don’t seem upset as they’re making up losses on volume.

Rambutan growing season is in full swing and consumers are responding by buying them up for gift baskets, desserts or just eating raw.
