Banglamung has ordered contractors widening Highway 36 in Kratinglai to put up signs, reflective tape and traffic cones to prevent cars from driving off the road.

Following numerous accidents and even more complaints, the district told the contractor to place lights and reflective warning signs along the construction zone and place orange cones at regular intervals to slow traffic.

The improvements come more than a month after highway workers removed streetlights around the work zone at the Highway 36-Highway 7 interchange in Pong, which is being widened to six lanes.

The highway on both sides has been dug up, but is badly marked and, at night, the meter-deep trenches can’t be seen. Cars have plunged into huge trenches in the dark.

About seven kilometers of roadway are being rebuilt with work expected to continue through December.
