Bangkok streets begin to calm after days of intense Songkran celebrations, as traffic gradually returns to normal and festival zones wind down, while Pattaya just warms up.

PATTAYA, Thailand – After days of vibrant chaos across the capital, Bangkok’s Songkran celebrations are gradually easing as the city’s main water-play zones begin to settle. Streets that were packed with crowds, music, and nonstop water fights are now slowly returning to normal traffic flow, marking the end of one chapter of Thailand’s New Year festivities.

But the energy is far from over.

All eyes are now turning to Pattaya, where Songkran spirit is already surging back to life. Early celebrations have begun across several roads, with locals and visitors stepping into the streets for the first waves of water play ahead of the city’s famous “Wan Lai Pattaya” climax on April 19. The coastal city is once again transforming into a massive open-air festival zone, with water battles, foam parties, and crowded beachfront routes setting the tone for the days ahead.

Even before the official peak day, key areas are already experiencing heavy activity. Water splashing has started in multiple streets, vendors are setting up along major routes, and traffic is adapting to sudden slowdowns as the festival atmosphere spreads rapidly across the city. Pattaya is preparing for one of the busiest phases of the Songkran season, where celebrations often stretch from daytime into late night along the beachfront.

With Bangkok cooling down and Pattaya heating up, Thailand’s most iconic festival is clearly shifting stages — but not losing momentum.
