BANGKOK, Thailand – Tourist Police Commander Pol Lt Gen Pongsiam Meekanthong inspected security preparations at Suvarnabhumi Airport on October 8 and ordered officers to ensure a safe and smooth arrival for international visitors attending the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings.
Pol Lt Gen Pongsiam visited the Tourist Police Division 1, Sub-Division 3, at the airport at 2.30 p.m. to inspect preparations and oversee the deployment of officers ahead of the high-profile meetings, which will be held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok from October 12–18.
The annual meetings are expected to bring more than 15,000 participants from around the world to Thailand, including senior representatives from the 191 member countries of the World Bank and IMF.
The Tourist Police commander stressed the importance of raising security standards and building confidence among visitors arriving in Thailand. Officers were instructed to provide assistance, maintain a visible presence and respond quickly to any problems affecting travellers.

Particular attention was given to intelligence gathering and advance monitoring to identify potential security concerns before they develop. Officers were also told to conduct regular patrols around baggage-claim areas to prevent luggage loss, theft and other crimes affecting passengers.
Tourist Police will work closely with neighboring agencies at the airport to deal with incidents and provide assistance when needed, ensuring that problems can be resolved quickly and with minimal disruption to international visitors.
The airport operation forms part of a broader security effort for the IMF–World Bank meetings. The Royal Thai Police has established coordinated command and monitoring measures covering delegates’ arrival in Thailand, accommodation, transportation, meeting venues and other activities throughout the event. The World Bank has also highlighted security and safety as a priority for participants, with increased police presence and traffic controls planned around the meeting venue during the event.
