PATTAYA, Thailand – As Pattaya settles into the rainy season, residents and visitors alike can breathe easy—water supply concerns are off the table for now. Thanks to consistent downpours, the Mabprachan Reservoir, the city’s main raw water source, is now over 80% full, marking a significant rebound from the dry summer months.
Locals are making the most of the revitalized reservoir. Daily scenes at Mabprachan now include residents fishing, casting nets from small boats, or simply jogging along the reservoir’s edge during the cool evenings. Some use the fresh catch to supplement their family meals, while others sell the excess at local markets. It’s a small but vivid sign of how closely Pattaya’s communities are tied to this crucial water source.
According to the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) in Pattaya, the city’s overall water situation is stable and secure. To further guard against future shortages, authorities have arranged supplementary raw water purchases from multiple provinces including Rayong and Chanthaburi, with East Water Co. handling distribution logistics. Additional support also comes from a partnership with the Sattahip Waterworks.
The PWA emphasized that water supply is sufficient for 2025, with no major disruptions expected. While occasional maintenance work—like repairing aging pipelines—may temporarily reduce water pressure or cause minor discoloration in some areas, these are planned operations aimed at improving long-term service reliability. Residents are advised to keep a small backup supply on hand just in case, but no widespread shortage is anticipated.
In short, as Pattaya enjoys fuller reservoirs, healthier ecosystems, and a secure water plan, there’s no reason to panic—the taps will stay on, and the fish will keep biting… unless your pipes are broken.
