PATTAYA, Thailand – Mayor Poramet Ngampichet provided an update on the progress of constructing a monument honoring His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (Rama IX). The monument will be installed at the memorial site along Pattaya Beach, between Soi 11–12.
The project was first initiated when Mr. Poramet served as Assistant Minister of Culture. At that time, Pattaya City expressed its intention to build the monument at the designated site. Mr. Sonthaya Khunpluem, then-Mayor of Pattaya, submitted the proposal to the Director-General of the Fine Arts Department in 2019. Since assuming office as Mayor, Mr. Poramet has continued to follow up on the project’s development.
Most recently, the Fine Arts Department confirmed that both the monument’s design and the commemorative inscription have been completed. The inscription is beautifully written, honoring the late King with dignity and reverence, forming a central part of the project. Currently, work is focused on refining the monument’s base. Once finalized, the design will be submitted for approval from the Director-General of the Fine Arts Department, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, and the Minister of Culture, before being presented to the Royal Household Bureau for royal permission to proceed with the official construction.
Mayor Poramet emphasized Pattaya City’s strong commitment to erecting this monument along Pattaya Beach to pay tribute to His Majesty King Rama IX and commemorate His gracious presence when He once visited the area. The monument will serve as a lasting symbol of respect and remembrance of His Majesty’s legacy.
