PATTAYA, Thailand – The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Bangkok, surrounding metropolitan areas, and parts of eastern Thailand, including Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, and Trat. Residents in these areas are urged to remain alert for flash floods and sudden water surges, especially in low-lying communities and near riverbanks.

The department forecasts that rainfall will continue over the next 24 hours, with thunderstorms likely affecting 80% of Bangkok and the eastern provinces. Authorities also advise caution for boaters, as waves in affected coastal areas could exceed two meters.

Meanwhile, popular tourist destinations like Pattaya are expected to remain mostly safe, with only scattered showers predicted. Local authorities continue to monitor weather developments closely to ensure public safety.

The heavy rain is influenced by the passage of a monsoon trough across northern, central, and northeastern Thailand, coupled with moderate southwest monsoon winds covering the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

While Tropical Storm Tapah is moving toward southern China, it is not expected to affect Thailand’s weather conditions.

Bangkok sees light showers in Thung Khru, Bang Na, and Phra Khanong; heaviest rainfall recorded in Chom Thong at 53 mm as of 7 Sept, 7 PM.
