Bangkok faces thunderstorms, strong gusts and rain across 70% of the area, while heavy downpours threaten several regions with flash floods and forest runoff through October 16.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Meteorological Department has warned of thunderstorms, isolated heavy rain and strong winds across several regions through 6pm on October 16, with Bangkok and surrounding provinces facing rain over 70% of the area. The lower North, Central Plains, East and South are forecast to experience isolated heavy rainfall. Accumulated rain could trigger flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in foothill areas, near waterways and in low-lying communities.

In the Central region, including Bangkok and its surrounding provinces, thunderstorms are forecast across 60–70% of the area, with heavy rain and strong gusts possible in some locations.

Temperatures in the capital and surrounding areas are expected to range from 25–27°C to 33–35°C.

Eastern provinces including Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat could see thunderstorms across 60% of the area, with isolated heavy rain. The forecast also covers Tak, Kamphaeng Phet and Phetchabun in the North, along with several provinces in the Northeast.

Southern provinces on both coasts are also expected to experience thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain. The department cautioned that waves in areas affected by thunderstorms in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand could exceed two meters, advising boat operators to check routes, navigate carefully and avoid stormy areas. The unsettled weather is linked to easterly and southeasterly winds carrying moisture from the South China Sea over Thailand and the Gulf. Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to monitor weather updates and prepare for possible sudden flooding.
