With the Lighthouse Club’s swelling membership, the news that September’s networking party would be in the cozier confines of the Dicey Riley’s pub left some worried. But after all the tables were moved out and the bar closed to the public, the more than 250 people that turned out found there was more than enough rooms to celebrate several birthdays.

The Sept. event was sponsored by Joe Cox of Defense International Security Services; Frank Satar, sales manager from Novana Residence; Tracy Cosgrove of the Melissa Cosgrove Foundation and Paul Strachan of Pattaya Mail Publishing. All the sponsors except Cox are celebrating birthdays this month.

Satar and Strachan got the traditional Thai “money necklace” for the occasion, but the cash stapled onto the flower wreaths went to the Cosgrove foundation. Combined with entrance fees, the charity collected more than 140,000 baht.

The pub – and the free-flowing alcohol – made the party a lively forum to meet new friends and chat and just when the booze was running out, previous sponsor Height Holdings chipped in a donation to keep the taps open until the last guest staggered out 2.5 hours later.

The next Lighthouse Club networking night will be sponsored by CEA Projects and held on Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Thai Garden Resort. Entrance fees are 300 baht for members and female non-members and 600 baht for male non-members.
