Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, cabinet ministers and the people conducted alms-giving and merit-making ceremonies on the occasion of the anniversary of the passing of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, at Sanam Luang.

The Prime Minister and his spouse presided over the ceremonies in commemoration of the late King Rama IX. Privy councilors, the Supreme Court president, the parliament president, Palace officials, cabinet ministers and presidents of independent organizations, the Bangkok governor and military commanders attended the ceremonies. The alms-giving activity was conducted by 489 monks from various temples in Bangkok. Items provided for the alms-giving ceremony will be donated to various welfare agencies and needy temples.

The Prime Minister laid a wreath before a portrait of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, as did other attendees. In the provinces nationwide, similar ceremonies were held with many people attending in commemoration of the late King Rama IX.

This evening at Sanam Luang, the prime minister led the people in the lighting of candles in commemoration of the kindness of the late King Rama IX for 89 seconds. Musical and video shows will be conducted in commemoration of the late king’s many kindnesses.

Many people, dressed in yellow, attended the ceremonies and activities nationwide.
