Bangkok – Government Spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd disclosed Saturday the Prime Minister Gen Prayut had praised many provinces for encouraging holidaymakers to help conserve Thai culture by wearing traditional costumes to take part in Songkran celebrations.

Lt Gen Sansern said there were several ways to observe the Thai New Year that could benefit oneself and society such as performing merit-making activities, visiting aged relatives, spending time with families and joining community services.

The government spokesman added Gen Prayut had asked merrymakers not to use celebratory items that may cause danger to others such as high-powered water guns, and over-sized water bowls.

Event-goers are advised against wearing provocative clothing for safety reasons. Operators of entertainment venues have been urged to strictly observe the liquor sales laws during Songkran.
