THAI Smile takes over some Thai Airways’ flights

BANGKOK, Aug 20 – Thai Airways International (THAI) will hand over operations on the Bangkok-Colombo route to its sister company, THAI Smile, starting today.

Chokchai Panyayong, THAI senior executive vice president for commercial, said the shift from the national flag carrier to its subsidiary would lead to cost effectiveness and expansion of THAI Smile’s regional market.

THAI Smile will fly four times a week to the Sri Lanka’s capital and the frequency will be increased to daily as of October 27 which coincides with the winter schedule.

THAI Smile currently operates flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport to 10 domestic and regional cities including Chiang Mai, Surat Thani, Phuket/Krabi, Udon Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, Macau, Ahmedabad, Mandalay, New Delhi and Mumbai.

THAI Smile, flying with Airbus 320-200 aircraft, provides two classes – Smile Plus and Smile – and mileage can be added to THAI’s Royal Orchid Plus campaign.
