BANGKOK, Nov 26 – Industry Minister Wannarat Channukul said the recovery of flooded small and medium-sized entreprises (SMEs) was expected by the middle of next year.

He spoke after presiding over his ministry’s seminar on the voluntary restoration of flooded SMEs, stating that there were at least 550 entrepreneurs in 31 provinces registered with Department of Industrial Promotion under the rehabilitation programme after the flooding crisis as of Nov 25.

Estimated damages for about 200 SMEs which have registered for rehabilitation was more than Bt100 million, while an estimated figure on the losses of the entire industrial sector from floods was initially pegged at over Bt60 billion.

The industry’s restoration project for SMEs is divided into two parts and will run until April next year.

The first part concerns business processes, which includes business and marketing plans, management systems, locating distribution channels, and business groupings.

The second part covers restoration on production processes, focusing on machinery repair and production equipment along with improving plant plans and seeking measures for future flood prevention.
