BANGKOK, 15 September 2011 -Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Mr. Somkiat Chayasriwong insisted that the 40% minimum wage rise would be equally applied across the nation, although it was supposed to be effective in 7 provinces first.
The 7 provinces which will see the minimum wage of 300 THB per day first consist of Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi and Phuket. According to Mr. Somkiat, this guideline of wage increase will be proposed to the Central Wage Committee which will convene their next meeting at the end of this month.
The 40% wage rise is the initial proposal which will be officially enforced in the entire nation on 1 January, 2012 onwards. However, Mr. Somkiat said the 40% adjustment plan could be replaced if there was a better solution.
