BANGKOK, 22 September 2013 The Labor Ministry has held a seminar gathering opinions from different sectors to promote jobs among the disabled in Thailand.

The seminar was on the topic of skill improvement and job opportunities for handicapped people, under the social development plan. The Labor Ministry is aiming to push for the public and private sectors to increase the number of handicapped people in their workforces.

The meeting is aimed at diffusing knowledge to related agencies, especially the provincial labor offices, about how to improve the disabled laborers and the protection against unfair treatments.

The Labor Ministry has imposed a ministerial regulation for all state enterprises to take in at least 1 disabled person for every 100 of their workers. Unless they abide by the rule, they will be required to contribute certain amount of money to the disabled persons fund. Governmental offices that do not take in any disabled person must organize special activities or provide special services to the handicapped.
