The Heritage City model, using a combination of knowledge and innovation, is being promoted to develop historic areas with a goal of increasing tourism by more than 10% per year.

King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, a network of 11 universities, Sukhothai Province and Kampaeng Phet Province recently joined the artistic and cultural network. They are applying a “Heritage City” model to develop areas around the World Heritage Sites and old cities, Sukhothai, Si Satchanalai and Kampaeng Phet, to become perfect World Heritage areas.

The work of the “Heritage City” model, a World Heritage city model, started in cities with a World Heritage Site that have a cultural capital, namely Sukhothai, Si Satchanalai and Kampaeng Phet.

The development and integration work is being done in four respects: structural development, artistic, cultural and identity conservation, agricultural promotion and qualitative tourism promotion.

The project is open to local residents to get involved in the development and application of suitable technology. It is also aimed at inducing growth in tourism while maintaining community identities and developing a safety application to maintain the city plan and safety systems.

If the project is accomplished, tourism and income will increase at a rate of not less than 10% per year, the present income from tourism locations being more than 4.5 billion baht.
