BANGKOK, 21 May 2012  – The Deputy Prime Minister has indicated that the entire process of budget-making for the 2013 fiscal year is transparent and free of corruption.

Deputy Prime Minister Pol. Capt. Chalerm Yubumrung has insisted that the drafting of the 2013 Budget Bill had been carried out with absolute transparency. The overall budget draft for the 2013 stands at 2.4 trillion baht, which is an increase of 20 billion baht from that of the previous year. He pointed out that the new budget will facilitate more investment as well as the implementation of urgent policies.

One of the key focuses of the 2013 Budget Bill deliberation is education given the government’s aim to prepare Thailand for its integration into the ASEAN Community in 2015. Thus, the Education Ministry’s budget proposal stands highest at 460 billion baht.

Meanwhile, the Deputy PM also explained that the increased budget for drug eradication is a reflection of the government’s seriousness to put an end to the chronic social problem.

The parliament session to deliberate the 2013 Budget Bill, now underway, is scheduled to last 3 days from 21 to 23 May.
