BANGKOK, 6 September 2013 (NNT) – The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) is planning to raise airport tax rates for the first time in six years.

Director General Woradej Hanprasert said the passenger service charges or airport taxes are set to increase at all 28 airports under the department’s supervision.

For domestic passengers, the rate will jump from 50 to 100 baht and for international passengers from 400 to 500 baht.

Mr Woradej said the addition will be spent on maintenance and improvement of facilities at its respective airports. The DCA is currently seeking approval from Parliament for the tax hike.

The Airports of Thailand Pcl also echoed the DCA’s sentiment, saying that the hike reflects the real costs facing airports.
