BANGKOK, 19 Nov 2013 The Commerce Ministry is confident that Thailand will see 5-7 percent export growth next year, thanks to the global economic recovery.

Despite the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB)’s recent forecast that Thailand would see a zero-percent export growth this year, Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisan reiterated that the country would see a one- percent expansion in its export industry as anticipated earlier, and that the government would, in the last 2 months of 2013, go all out pushing for the export to reach its target.

The minister cited the world economic slump as one of the main factors contributing to the drop in Thai export. He, however, expressed his belief that next year’s export would grow in the range of 5-7 percent in line with the expected global economic recovery.

The government will do its best in finding new markets for Thai exporters, while helping them maintain their existing trade partners. The government is also eyeing more overseas roadshows in order to build confidence in Thai products among foreign importers, he added.
