BANGKOK 6 October, 2011  – The Commerce Ministry has assigned the Export Promotion Department and its commerce ambassadors worldwide to update foreign customers on flooding in the country.

As flooding is posing a problem to transport, the Export Promotion Department and all the 65 commerce ambassadors have been tasked with assuring foreign importers that the flooding would have only a little impact on goods shipment.

The Commerce Ministry has sent a letter asking the private sector, chambers of commerce, and trade-related associations about their problems, so that it can respond to their needs.

The Export Promotion office in the Northeast reported that flood crisis had badly hit the agricultural sector but still had no direct impact on the transport sector. In the North, flooding was reported to have delayed goods exportation. The Ministry is looking for alternative routes for operators having difficulty transporting raw materials.

In addition, the Commerce Ministry has asked trade agencies to monitor the financial crisis in Greece and boost trades in new markets, such as China, India and the Middle East.
