BANGKOK, 12 November 2013 The cabinet on Tuesday gave the green light to the second phase of the eco-car project which is aimed to support investments in eco-car production while the government expects the project to be materialized in 2015.

Government Spokesperson Teerat Ratanasevi revealed that the cabinet had given a nod to the eco-car project in the second phase, in which manufacturers would be entitled to investment support under the condition that they invest in an integrated production system, from car parts production to assembly.

He said each producer under the project would have to produce at least 100,000 eco-cars per year, with the minimum investment of 6.5 billion baht. The fuel consumption rate of the eco-cars will have to be no more than 4.3 liters per 100 kilometers.

The spokesperson also expected the new phase to be materialized in 2015 and expressed his belief that the project would create at least 40 billion baht worth of investment in eco-car production.
