597 TV stations now back on air; others being considered

BANGKOK, 3 June 2014 – The secretary general of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, (NBTC) Thakorn Tuntasit has announced that free to air TV stations, satellite TV stations and cable TV stations can now all broadcast normally again. Ninety percent of stations are already back on air, which amounts to 597 channels.

In addition, the remaining TV stations, and radio broadcasters numbering 4,300 stations are being considered for an early resumption of on air services.

The case of the suspended Voice TV station is also under consideration if its revised content can be shown not to violate the declaration by NCPO. TV channels which are now broadcasting, include 6 analog TV channels, 23 digital TV channels with the exception of Voice TV, 333 satellite TV channels, 211 cable TV channels and 24 IPTV channels. All channels must undertake not to disseminate content that incites or causes chaos in society.
