BANGKOK, Thailand – The Public Relations Department (PRD) received the ABU Developing Broadcasters’ Excellence Award 2026 for an innovative digital television monitoring system developed by a Thai engineer. The award was presented on October 30 during the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Technical Committee Meeting, part of the 63rd ABU General Assembly in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The award recognizes “Modernizing NBT Broadcast Monitoring: Automatic System with Real-Time Alerts,” designed and developed by Yuthapong Panthachai, senior electrical engineer at Public Relations Office 1 in Khon Kaen. Senior electrical engineer Rahat Udomvet accepted the award on his behalf. The system enables centralized monitoring of all 168 digital television transmitter stations operated by the PRD nationwide, enhancing operational efficiency and broadcast reliability. It monitors transmitter power, main electricity supplies, and backup generators, and automatically sends real-time alerts to responsible officers’ mobile phones when abnormalities occur.
The system also displays live broadcast feeds from all 168 stations on a single monitoring screen, enabling engineers to identify potential problems and respond more efficiently. Developed in-house using Python, along with SNMP and Modbus communication technologies, the system was designed, tested, and implemented by PRD personnel. This achievement highlights the technical expertise and innovation of Thai broadcasting engineers in applying modern technology to improve public broadcasting services and strengthen Thailand’s broadcasting engineering standards.
