SURIN, Thailand – A 67-year-old homeowner in Surin was left badly shaken after discovering a large snake hiding beneath his motorcycle, initially mistaking it for a cobra before rescue workers identified it as a non-venomous rat snake.
The incident occurred on October 30 at a house in Mueang district, where Surin rescue workers were called to remove the unexpected visitor. The snake, measuring approximately two meters, was found curled up beneath the lower frame of a motorcycle. Rescue workers took less than five minutes to capture it, identifying it as a banded rat snake, which is non-venomous. It was subsequently released back into its natural habitat. The homeowner, identified as Piew, 67, said he had just returned from collecting a delivery at the front entrance and was walking towards another entrance when he spotted the large, dark-colored snake beneath the motorcycle.
Fearing it was a cobra, he immediately contacted rescue workers for assistance.
When the snake was captured, they discovered it was in the process of swallowing a toad.
Despite his initial fright, Piew said he believed a snake entering the house was a good omen and could bring good fortune to the household. He even speculated that the unexpected visitor might have come to give him a hint about lucky lottery numbers.
