BANGKOK, Thailand – The government is accelerating flood relief operations and insurance compensation payments for residents affected by heavy rainfall and flooding in Phuket province. Emergency response teams have been deployed to assist affected communities, clear debris, and restore damaged areas.
Under the National Catastrophe Insurance Scheme, which took effect on October 1, insurance companies have been instructed to expedite initial compensation payments of 10,000 baht to eligible residents affected by flooding, flash floods, and landslides. Authorities will provide further assistance after they complete damage assessments and verify supporting documents.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploytalay Laksameesangchan announced that affected residents can register for disaster relief assistance until November 6, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Senior Citizens’ Club Center Building in Patong Municipality. Applicants must prepare copies of their national identification cards and house registration documents, photographs of the damage, and a list of damaged property. Tenants should also provide rental agreements where applicable.
Government agencies have been instructed to help residents register and ensure timely access to available relief measures. Authorities will continue coordinating recovery efforts and processing compensation claims to ease financial hardship and help affected households recover from the disaster. (NNT)
