PATTAYA, Thailand – A British man escaped serious injury after a violent two-car collision at a South Pattaya traffic-light intersection early on October 26, with a good Samaritan helping free a driver trapped inside a wrecked car after sparks and flames broke out. The crash occurred at about 2.06 a.m. at the South Pattaya intersection on the inbound route towards Bangkok in Nongprue, Banglamung district. Sawang Boriboon rescue workers and Pattaya police were dispatched to the scene.

An MG sedan with Rayong registration had overturned onto its side and suffered extensive damage. The foreign driver, whose identity and nationality were not immediately established, sustained abrasions and complained of chest pain. His passenger, a 36-year-old British man identified as Charlie, was not injured. A Chiang Mai-registered Honda Civic involved in the collision was found nearby with severe damage to its side. The car had reportedly been thrown more than 30 metres by the impact. Its 38-year-old driver, Warut, suffered a broken right arm and an injury near his right eye. Rescue workers provided first aid before taking both injured drivers to hospital.

Witnesses told authorities that the MG had been travelling from Sattahip towards Bangkok when its driver allegedly accelerated through a red light. At the same time, the Honda Civic was crossing the intersection towards South Pattaya Road, resulting in the collision.

The impact trapped the MG driver inside the wreckage. When sparks and flames appeared, a bystander rushed to help extinguish the fire and pull the driver to safety before emergency crews took over.  Police investigator Pol Lt Kachen Phuthadnga documented the scene and is preparing to review CCTV footage to establish the precise circumstances of the crash and determine legal responsibility.
